FNESC co-developed legislation that recognizes the critical role that First Nations mandated post-secondary institutes play in the BC post-secondary education system, and commits the Province to provide operational funding for eligible institutes.

The work of First Nations to provide post-secondary education to their communities will now be supported by ongoing funding provided under new legislation – Bill 20. Resulting from the joint efforts of FNESC, IAHLA, and the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, Bill 20 reinforces the integral role of First Nations-mandated post-secondary institutes as a key pillar of BC’s post-secondary education system.

Bill 20 commits the Province to contribute ongoing operational and capacity funding for eligible institutes, addressing a key commitment in the Declaration Act Action Plan.
