Services to First Nation Schools
FNESC and the First Nations Schools Association have supported First Nations in establishing an effective and relevant education system. This includes support for First Nation students and First Nation schools.
We are continuing our efforts to support First Nation schools by implementing a wide range of education programs and services, and offering support to schools and communities in meaningful ways.

Support Services
Supports for Instruction (including K4-12, adults, and First Nations Language and Culture)
- Coaching for teachers related to planning, instruction, classroom management, assessment, and reporting, including report card writing
- Support for the use of CAT4, Acadience, and the Preschool Early Literacy Intervention (PELI) assessment

Supports for Human Resources
- Support for people who manage employees at First Nation schools to assist with human resource issues, including performance management, discipline and termination, employee health and safety; workplace relationships; attraction, selection and retention of employees; etc.

Supports for First Nation School Principals (including K4 – 12)
- Direct support, information sharing, and professional development opportunities for school principals to assist them with their educational leadership role

Supports for Leadership of First Nation Adult Secondary Education Centres
- Support for starting a new Adult Secondary Education Program
- Support for operational recommendations/funding issues
- Instructional and program implementation supports
Supports for Accessing Graduation Certificates
- Guidance related to the BC graduation requirements and student course options and selection
- Support with scheduling/timetabling for high school programs and assistance with graduation planning
- Support for the creation of First Nations Authorized Courses
Supports for Special Education Programming
- Assistance with accessing relevant materials, service providers, and professional development
- Support for Speech Language and Occupational Therapy issues
- Support for creating effective IEPs for students with exceptionalities
- Support for creating school-based teams to support and monitor IEP implementation
- Learning Assistance Teacher Network
Supports for the School Assessment and Certification Process
- Supports for schools participating in the First Nations Schools Assessment and Certification Process (implementing internal reviews, completing external reviews, and school growth plan implementation).
Supports for Accessing First Nations Language and Culture Program (FNLCP) Grants
- Assistance with completing School Funding Grant workplans and reports
- Assistance with the FNLCP Portal
Supports for Accessing Special Education Program (SEP) Grants
- Assistance with completing Funding Grant workplans and reports, including guidance for identifying students for inclusion on related workplans and applications
- Assistance with the SEP Portal
Connected Classrooms Program
- Synchronous grade 10-12 courses delivered in partnership with First Nation schools that offer grades 10-12, including adult programs
Data Records and User Management System (DRUMS)
- A student information system designed for First Nation schools, including training for users
Supports for School Technology and the Technology Support Line
- Suggestions and advice related to technology, software and networks advice; technology and software procurement; connectivity, computer, software and devices
- Access to Read and Write for all staff and students in First Nation schools.
First Nations Parents Club
- A program to support locally-based Parent Clubs, providing information, resources, and grants for parent support and attendance initiatives
User Support for Portals (SEP, FNLCP, and School Assessment)
- Assistance resetting passwords for portals
- Training sessions on how to use program portals
