Support Services

Instruction

  • Coaching for teachers related to planning, instruction, classroom management, assessment, and reporting, including report card writing
  • Professional development opportunities for educators, including a Teacher Network
  • Sharing of resources to support effective teaching in First Nation schools
  • Support for the use of CAT4, Acadience, and the Preschool Early Literacy Intervention (PELI) assessment, and for a broader use of data to inform education decision-making

First Nation School Principals (including K4 – 12)

  • Direct support and information sharing to assist school principals in fulfilling their educational leadership roles
  • Professional development opportunities, including a Principal Network

Leadership of First Nation Adult Secondary Education

  • Information and advice to assist with opening a new First Nation Adult Secondary Education Program
  • Information sharing and direct support for ongoing operations
  • Instructional and program implementation advice and resources

Accessing Graduation Certificates

  • Guidance related to the BC graduation requirements and student course options and selection
  • Assistance related to scheduling/timetabling for high school programs and graduation planning
  • Support for the creation of First Nations Authorized Courses

Supporting Students with Exceptionalities Program (SSEP)

  • Assistance with accessing relevant materials and service providers
  • Advice related to Speech Language and Occupational Therapy services
  • Coaching to support the creation, implementation, and monitoring of effective IEPs for students with exceptionalities
  • Professional development opportunities and resources to support effective SSEP school-based programs and services
  • Assistance with completing SSEP Funding Grant workplans and reports and using the SSEP Portal

The School Assessment and Certification Process

  • Supports for schools participating in the First Nations Schools Assessment and Certification Process (implementing internal reviews, completing external reviews, and school growth plan implementation).

First Nations Language and Culture Program (FNLCP)

  • Professional development opportunities and resources to support effective school, land, and water-based First Nations language and culture learning opportunities
  • Coaching to support Language and Culture instruction
  • Assistance with completing School Funding Grant workplans and reports
  • Assistance with the FNLCP Portal

Connected Classrooms Program

  • Select synchronous grade 10-12 courses delivered in partnership with First Nation schools that offer grades 10-12, including Adult Secondary Education Programs

Data Records and User Management System (DRUMS)

  • A student information system designed for First Nation schools, including training for users

First Nations Parents Club

  • A program to support locally-based Parent Clubs, providing information, resources, and grants to encourage family engagement and attendance initiatives

Education Governance

  • Supports for First Nation School Governing Authorities, including information sharing and workshops

User Support for the BC First Nations Education Portals (SSEP, FNLCP, School Assessment and Certification, Resources for First Nation Schools)

  • Assistance resetting passwords for portals
  • Training sessions on how to use program portals
