FNESC is working to make systemic shifts to support successful educational outcomes for all First Nation students, regardless of where they live or are enrolled in school in BC.

Respecting the government-to-government relationship between First Nations and the province of BC, FNESC has a mandate from First Nations Leadership to work with the Ministry of Education and Child Care and other partners to collaborate on a wide range of initiatives, many of which are implemented at the school district and school level.

The following resources may be of particular interest to school district staff and school district leadership.

Local Education Agreements (LEAs) are an important mechanism to increase accountability and to promote and achieve effective working relationships between First Nations and boards of education, enabling them to work collaboratively to support First Nation students.

Indigenous Education Councils advise Boards of Education on programs and services for Indigenous students and on the integration of Indigenous world views and perspectives, in particular those of First Nations in whose territory the board operates.
